Romeo Duncan: 21-Year-Old Dad Accused Of Making A Drug Deal As Baby Daughter Drowned To Death

Romeo Duncan's daughter died as he made a drug deal

A Texas man is in the custody of the San Antonio police and has been charged with the death of his one-year-old baby daughter who drowned inside a bathtub while he was busy making a drug deal. 21-year-old Romeo Alexander Duncan was arrested on Tuesday and is facing a second degree felony charge for the death of one-year-old Rubi Duncan. Romeo faces a charge of injury to a child by omission, reports ABC News 10

According to KWTX News, the incident that lead to the arrest of Duncan happened on June 2, at around 7 pm local time. Local emergency teams received a call of an infant drowning inside a home near Bentley Street. By the time first responders reached the spot, the girl was unresponsive and not breathing. The girl was pronounced dead at the Northeast Baptist Hospital, later that evening.

The arrest warrant affidavit of Romeo Duncan initially stated that he had stepped out of the bathroom and found the baby unresponsive by the time he returned. Scared, Romeo texted the child’s mother who came to the place and called up 911.

Police however found something amiss after they recovered 56 grams of cocaine, seven grams of crystal methamphetamine, and nine grams of heroin from inside the restroom where the baby was found dead. Having found the drugs inside the property, Duncan was arrested by the San Antonio Police Department on charges of drug possession with intent to deliver. Further investigations into Romeo’s cellphone records revealed even more shocking actions from Romeo.

Investigations confirmed that 39 minutes had elapsed since Romeo first texted the child’s mother to the time the first responders reached the place. What was even more shocking was the fact that Romeo had texted other people to come fast and “come get the drugs” apparently stored in his home as the cops were coming. There were 14 texts messages in all. It is now thought that Romeo delayed the arrival of the cops because he wanted to get the drugs off his home before responders arrived.

Romeo’s arrest warrant also says that he did not do enough to save the baby girl’s life. He was not trained to perform CPR – but did not call 911 immediately after he found the baby drowning. In his defense, Romeo told investigators that he simply panicked and could not seek immediate help for the same reason.

Duncan’s baby girl would have turned a year old on July 12. Her father is not new to arrest or jail. Duncan was in jail until January 2014 for the possession of an unlawful weapon, theft and graffiti according to Bexar County arrest records. This is not the first time we are hearing reports about a careless father causing harm to his child.

Is this becoming a disturbing trend?
