As if Sean Lee hasn’t seen enough injuries during his short, but successful career, he finds himself being escorted off the field yet again. The Dallas Cowboys fear their star linebacker, Lee, has possibly torn his ACL during the teams’ first organized team activity workout as reported by ESPN.
ESPN stated that during the play, it seemed as if Lee was slipping on a screen pass while Lee was being blocked by Zack Martin, the rookie right guard. Things didn’t appear good as Lee laid on the ground and had to receive assistance from the training staff in order to get to the locker room.
Sean Lee is invaluable to the Dallas Cowboys team. Lee led his team in tackles in 2011 even while wearing a cast on his arm due to a dislocated wrist back in 2011. Sean Lee continued to play hard and finished fourth on the team in 2012 with 77 tackles while Lee only played six games. And last season, Lee led his Dallas Cowboys team with four interceptions, as reported by ESPN.
Lee has had ACL injuries in the past, having torn his right ACL in 2008, and Lee also partially tore his left ACL in 2009. Since Lee has been in the NFL, the injuries have continued.
USA Today records that Lee, up to this point, has not played a full 16-game season. In addition to the dislocated wrist injury, Lee injured his big toe one season, and the following season he struggled with neck and hamstring injuries causing Lee to miss numerous games.
The Cowboys want and need Lee to be well because of the excellent skills he brings to the game. Lee is being paid extremely well for his skills. ESPN reveals that Lee was signed to a six-year extension worth up to $ 51 million. That extension also included a $ 10 million signing bonus.
Sean Lee wants to play as much as his teammates want him on the field. ESPN continues to report that the base value of Lee’s deal is worth $ 42 million. And if Lee plays in a minimum of 80 percent of the snaps, he could earn up to $ 9 million more. That’s nothing to sneeze about.
Depending on the results of Sean’s MRI, his rookie backup, Anthony Hitchens is gearing up to take the lead if necessary.
USA Today reports Sean Lee’s coach, Jason Garrett, bragging on Lee stating, “…he’s (Lee) as mentally tough an individual as I’ve ever been around, so whatever the circumstances are, he (Lee) always puts his best foot forward and strives to be his best.”
We are all pulling for Sean Lee whether a Dallas Cowboy fan or not. Get well soon, Sean Lee.
