Scotland Issuing Government Guardian For Every Child, Act Sparks Backlash

parental rights

The Scotland named person appointed by the government could be a school teacher, health worker, or a host of other state approved individuals other than the actual parents or grandparents of the child. The government guardian will have the authority to report concerns which allegedly pertain to the well being of the child to local authorities.

Every child will be appointed a government guardian for the purposes of ensuring their well being. Opponents to the mandate have formed the NO2NP campaign to fight back against the looming “named person” law. The NO2NP campaign has mounted a costly legal challenge to the named person laws. The lawsuit focuses on the “defense of family life against state intrusion.” The group also feels that the pending law intrudes upon the European Convention on Human Rights, Article 8 in particular. That segment on the human rights rules guarantee the right to “respect private family and life.”

Scottish Christians are concerned about how risks to a child’s well being will actually be defined. Religious freedom worries voiced include problems arising when parents teach their children that a marriage is a union of one man to one woman and other restrictions issued by parents relating to birth control and relationship with the opposite sex when the children become teens.

Faith liberty expert Elizabeth Kendal had this to say about the government guardian mandate in Scotland:

“It can be imagined how this law could become a weapon in the hands of anti-Christian elements of state guardians with agendas and of all manner of social engineers. This law will turn state employees into informants to enforce state ideology and conservative Christian parents will be powerless to prevent it. The law is wide open for abuse. Whilst currently it may not look like a religious liberty issue, the way is open for it to become one.”

The Scottish Parents Teacher Council, CARE, the Christian Institute, and other similar groups appear to agree with Kendal and are all working with the NO2NP project to prevent the mandate from being enacted as planned in 2016.

Christian Institute representative Colin Hart had this to say about Scotland’s named person mandate:
“It offers the state unbridled access into the living rooms of ever family in the country, reducing and diluting the roles of ordinary parents and intruding on their fundamental rights to a private family life.”

Minister for Children and Young People Aileen Campbell is downplaying the concerns by parents and Christians by claiming that the named person mandate will be a “boost” for the wellbeing of children.

The child welfare official had this to say during an interview with the Scottish Herald:

“Nothing in the legislation changes parental rights and responsibilities. I’ve been consistently clear that parents and carers, with very few exceptions, are the best people to raise their children. By responding to needs and risks more quickly, problems are less likely to escalate, meaning there are fewer vulnerable children.”

The Scotland named person law is also already in operation in the areas of Edinburgh and Ayrshire. Despite the vocal publish backlash and the ongoing legal challenge, the government appears to be steadfastly behind the policy.

Children and social services ministry officials have stated that the named person act will prevent “vulnerable children” form slipping through the cracks and offer Scottish families a “point of contact” when in need of assistance. The law will also create 500 new health visitor positions and will include naming a government guardian for all children from birth to the age of 18.

Do you think the Scotland named person law is an infringement upon parental rights and religious freedom? Could such a law ever become a reality in America?

Evidence Now Shows That ISIS Has Now Infiltrated The Gaza Strip, Has Hamas Lost Control?

ISIS

The Middle Eastern threat of ISIS has been burning news outlets for the last month or so. In such a short time, ISIS has spread across most of northern Iraq and Syria, destroying mosques and shrines along the way to bring in the New Islamic Caliphate. However, there is another player in this intense war, and it has to do with the Hamas and Israel. As of now, Hamas has been hammered by Israel with nine tactical strikes taking out specific military landmarks.

Now there is evidence that ISIS has invaded the Gaza Strip where Hamas is located. Has Hamas lost control of the Gaza Strip? If so, were the attacks to Israel actually done by ISIS?

According to an article by Gatestone Institute, there is photographic evidence showing that the terrorist group Islamic State of Iraq – also known as “The Islamic State” or ISIS – has begun operating in the Gaza Strip. Palestinian Authorities and Israeli security sources have said they are convinced some of the followers of ISIS in the Gaza Strip are responsible for some of the recent rocket attacks on Israel. And what is worse, Hamas says they seem to be losing control over dozens of terror cells belonging to ISIS and other groups.

Eyad al-Bazam, a spokesman for the Hamas-controlled Ministry of Interior, denied reports that ISIS had infiltrated Egypt through tunnels along the borders of the Gaza Strip. He described them as “lies and fabrications” adding to the campaign to “distort the image of the Gaza Strip”. He later proclaimed there is no presence of ISIS in the Gaza Strip.

Unfortunately for Hamas, they are obviously nervous about the presence of ISIS terrorists in Gaza Strip and they see them as a direct challenge to their rule. ISIS believes that Hamas is “too moderate” and is not doing enough to achieve the destruction of Israel. As a matter of fact, it is also reported that Hamas is doing all they can to contain any ISIS news in Gaza Strip from leaking to the world. Last month, Hamas sent police and militias to disperse an organized rally of ISIS followers in the Gaza Strip. They were celebrating recent “military victories” in Iraq.

However, Now The End Begins did state that during the dispersing of the rally, Hamas prevented local journalists from covering the event. This was surely done in part to attempt the existence of ISIS in the Gaza Strip. And if ISIS does have control of the Gaza Strip, it is very bad for the rest of the Arab world against them as well as Israel because ISIS will have access to another country who also has concerns about the terrorist group: Egypt.

‘Uncharted’ PS4 Ports Could Be On Their Way

'Uncharted' PS4 HD remakes possible

Some Uncharted PS4 ports could be in the works, according to a statement from Sony. Nathan Drake and his adventures are very likely about to get the HD treatment much like The Last of Us.

After the recent reveal of Uncharted 4 at E3 2014, it occurred to Sony head Shuhei Yoshida that some gamers might not have owned a PlayStation 3 before playing the latest Uncharted on the next-gen console. Gamers who did own the PS3 probably won’t want to buy the games again, even in an HD collection. However, with Microsoft’s horrible PR over the last year, even Xbox 360 owners have seen the PlayStation 4 as a better buy than the obvious next step up. The Sony head basically stated that about 50 percent of PS4 owners never owned the PlayStation 3, and hence never played Uncharted 1-3.

Shuhei Yoshida explained about the possibility of HD releases of Uncharted PS4 ports:

“Almost 50 per cent of people who have purchased a PS4 didn’t own a PS3, and that’s lots of people that missed exclusive PS3 titles like The Last of Us, so it’s a great way to welcome those people back to PlayStation, saying this is what you missed.

“There are requests from some consumers for games that were released later in the generation, like Uncharted, which people might have missed. That would be a good candidate. We don’t want to flood the market with remade games either.”

In other words, Yoshida knows there is a line to be drawn with HD remakes, and Sony won’t take Nintendo’s route and simply re-release all of their previous games on the new console. Uncharted has been a big seller among PlayStation owners, and could make a way for newcomers to catch up on the storyline behind Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End by releasing Uncharted PS4 ports.

Do you think this is a good idea, or should PS4 owners simply be satisfied with the latest game and buy a PS3 to play the older games? Is it time Sony simply made the PS4 backwards compatible?

Mike Ditka Debuts Nakesake Hot Dog At Al’s Beef

Ditka

Mike Ditka has unveiled a new hot-dog at Al’s Italian Beef that has been named after himself.

The Chicago based restaurant showcased the Spicy Jumbo Ditka Dog to the world in honor of National Hot Dog Month, which will run throughout July.

The latest addition to the eatery’s menu is priced at $ 6.95, and it is served on a poppy seed bun and comes covered in grilled onions, mustard and chillies. A spokesman for Al’s confirmed that this is the biggest hot dog that the establishment has ever offered.

You can check out an image of the gargantuan hot-dog in all of its glory below:

Ditka

Ditka also chimed in regarding his namesake hot-dog, and he made the announcement in his usual bravado style.

“The Spicy Jumbo Ditka Dog is a taste to experience,” Ditka declared, “and you better be prepared to tackle it with an appetite. This is the best sausage I’ve ever had, which is exactly why I put my name on it.”

Ditka is now the official spokesperson for Al’s, which was founded in 1938 and has 15 outlets across the Chicago area, as well as one outlet in both Nevada and California. In 2013, he also created Ditka Sausages with Vienna Beef. The eight-inch long sausage come in two types; either Hot Beef Polish Sausage or Chicken Sausage with Mozzarella and Sun-Dried Tomatoes.

For most people though Ditka will always be remembered for his football career. He coached the Chicago Bears for 11 years, as well as the New Orleans Saints for three, and, alongside Tom Flores, he is the only person to have won an NFL title as a player, an assistant coach, and a head coach. He is the only individual to have won a championship with the same team as a coach and a player in the modern game too.

He is also known for his exuberant personality. In 1983 he broke his hand after punching a locker during a halftime speech to his players, while he almost came to blows his his defensive co-ordinator, Buddy Ryan, in 1985.

In 1986 and 1987 he had altercations with fans who had started to heckle him from the sidelines. In the first instance, Ditka returned the favour by gesturing to one of them with his hand and saying, “See that? That’s your IQ, buddy. Zero,” and he then followed this up a year later by throwing a piece of chewing gum at a San Francisco 49ers fan.

Whoops! Woman Texts Naked Selfie To Dad Instead Of Boyfriend, Shares Debacle On Twitter

woman texts nude selfie to dad

The Twitter universe was aflame Tuesday with the story of Nyjah, a college student who goes by the Twitter handle @dearfashionn, and who — she said — made the awkward error of texting a naked photo of herself to her dad.

The intimate selfie, needless to say, was intended to go to her boyfriend.

Now, first of all, whenever one of these crazy tales of online shenanigans crops up, we have to give the required caveat. There’s no real way to tell if Nyjah’s epic story is on the level, or a prank, or a flat-out hoax. All we can say is, whatever the reality, and we sure hope it’s real, this story is too good to ignore. As if there weren’t already enough cautionary tales about sexting out there, this one should persuade anyone to weigh the risks before hitting “send.”

Or at least, make sure that your “send” is going to the right person.

Nyjah started off announcing on her Twitter feed yesterday (yes, in all caps, appropriately in this case), “OMG HOW DO YOU CANCEL A TEXT MESSAGE!!”

That was followed moments later by the less panicked (all lower-case this time), “i just sent a nude to my dad.” That message was followed by 32 “sad face” icons.

And then, she took a screen capture of her iPhone, to share with the Twitter world, or at least her followers, the immediate reaction of her father.

We’re not sure how many Twitter followers Nyjah had accumulated before this incident, but as of Wednesday afternoon, she had upwards of 11,000. So if this was all a stunt to collect Twitter followers, well, safe to say it was successful. Nyjah then followed up by documenting her father’s repeated attempts to reach on the phone to, we’re certain, calmly discuss the guidelines for maintaining privacy and safety online.

How did Nyjah get herself into this debacle? Well, take a look at this tweet from Tuesday night.

There you go. Her boyfriend’s name is apparently “Daquan.” Now anyone who has ever sent a text knows how easy it is to miss on a smartphone screen with your thumb or forefinger and select the wrong recipient. We’re guessing that “Daquan” in Nyjah’s contact list is the one just below “Daddy.”

And there you have it.

Nyjah appeared to be taking the whole episode in good humor. But she also might want to check out this guide from the site LifeHacker, which lists a few apps designed to allow texters to cancel errant messages just such as Nyjah’s naked selfie.

50 Blindfolded Bodies Found In Iraq

50 Bodies Discovered Iraq

More than 50 blindfolded bodies were discovered in the Iraqi town of Alexandria on Wednesday, according to the country’s security officials. Two children were among the blindfolded and handcuffed bodies found in different parts of the predominantly Shiite town.

Details about the deaths were not immediately available and officials did not tell CNN when the people may have been killed. The grisly discoveries come after weeks of carnage across the Middle Eastern nation as Iraqi security forces battle radical Sunni Muslims from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, an al Qaeda splinter group.

ISIS seized large areas of northern and western Iraq in an offensive that started in Syria last month. The terror group has also taken over large parts of Syria in its goal to establish an Islamic state that spans both countries.

The Boston Herald notes that most of the bodies were men between the ages of 25 and 40. A local police officer and a medical official added that it appeared the victims were killed a few days earlier then dumped in the remote area south of Baghdad. Most of the blindfolded bodies had bullet wounds in either the head or the chest.

The killing raised concerns about a possible sectarian killing amid the battle against ISIS. While the motives remain unclear, grisly killings like this are similar to the ones seen during the worst days of Iraq’s sectarian battles in 2006 and 2007. At the time, Shiite militias and Sunni militant groups often slayed members of the other sect. Bodies were frequently found along roadsides, in empty lots, ditches, and canals.

As violence dropped over time, so did the sectarian killings. However, sectarian tensions have soared again in the region and authorities have started finding unidentified bodies dumped along roads again. While ISIS is leading the insurgency, other Sunni militias have joined, feeding off the anger in their minority community against Iraq’s Shiite-led government.

While no one has claimed responsibility for the blindfolded bodies dumped in Alexandria, ISIS did claim responsibility for recent suicide bombings in Baghdad that killed almost two dozen people. Security medical officials added that at least five people were killed and 17 wounded by car bombs in Hilla, near Alexandria.

Security in Hilla and surrounding town has deteriorated since fighting began last month. Hilla resident Abu Sajad explained to CNN, “We are witnessing increase in government forces deploying in Hilla’s streets daily, and we are staying up every night to give these forces the support in case there will be a need for us if ISIS show up in Hilla.”

With violence escalating in Iraq, it’s possible the 50 blindfolded bodies found in Alexandria Wednesday will not be an isolated incident.

Music video service Vevo just announced its “biggest update” for Android yet, touting major changes to the app’s user interface and streaming tech.

The Android app’s redesigned home screen features a real-time feed, like Vevo’s current iOS app. Vevo regularly updates the feed with new music video premieres, original content, recommended playlists, and artist news, the company said.

Vevo also promised its videos will load faster and stream better than they did previously on Android, the result of Vevo’s NexStreaming integration. Korean software firm NexStreaming makes streaming tech primarily for mobile devices.

The app offers real-time streams of three Vevo TV channels: “Hits” (pop), “Flow” (rap / R&B), and “Nashville” (country). Right now, those are only available in the U.S. and Canada.

Vevo introduced a number of other changes, including recommended videos, simpler playlist creation and playback, and a redesign “browse” section.

Vevo’s new Android app, which is live on Google Play now, arrives a week after the resignation of its product head, Michael Cerda. In his three years at the company, Cerda spearheaded Vevo’s push onto iOS and Android devices, as well as media boxes like the Xbox, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV.

Vevo, which launched in late 2009, is a joint venture of Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group, and Abu Dhabi Media. YouTube made a sizable investment in Vevo last summer, netting Google a roughly 7% stake in the company.

VEVO is the world’s leading all-premium music video and entertainment platform. VEVO is available in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and United Kingdom through VEVO.com, the mo… read more »

World Cup 2014: Germany/Brazil Match Lights Up Twitter, Breaks Records

Germany vs Brazil match up wins Twitter

Well played, 2014 FIFA World Cup, well played.

Thanks to the Germany vs Brazil match yesterday, during which Germany clobbered Brazil, the world has World Cup fever!

The match sparked the most talked about sporting event ever to trend on Twitter. All through the game yesterday, the Twitter feeds of millions ignited with social media commentary on the game.

Celebrities and sports greats across the world from supermodel Heidi Klum to the U.S. MLS club coach Jurgen Klinnsman took to Twitter to express their excitement over the match:

Can you believe this…I cant. 1…2…3…..4….5….6…..7… http://t.co/sacRPiQG41 — Heidi Klum (@heidiklum)

GERMANY WRITING WORLD CUP HISTORY TODAY!!! HUGE HUGE COMPLIMENT!!! SO PROUD OF THEM!! — Jurgen Klinsmann (@J_Klinsmann)

As for the hard numbers on how the World Cup 2014 took over Twitter?

The Boston Herald reports that yesterday’s match accounted for more than 35 million tweets, making it the most discussed sporting event on Twitter in the history of the social media site. The event also broke the record for the most tweets per second, according to the report. When Germany plunked down their fifth goal against Brazil, Twitter would experience a tidal wave of tweets: 580,166 per minute to be exact.

Comparatively speaking, the 2014 Super Bowl registered roughly 25 million tweets. Remember? The game where the Broncos were nearly shut-out and most definitely shut-down by Seattle? That royal beat down registered about 381,000 tweets a the height of the action. Interestingly enough, direct comparisons are being made between the Germany vs Brazil game and Super Bowl XLVIII.

The numbers don’t stop there, however. Over the span of a 15 day period, the 2014 World Cup games have chalked up more than 300 million tweets worldwide. In comparison, the 2012 Summer Olympics accounted for half that number, a mere 150 million, over a 16 day period.

Aside from the Germany vs Brazil trouncing, the most tweeted about match was the Brazil vs Chile meeting in the round of 16.

In related news, since his team is no longer in the running for the cup, Jurgen Klinnsman was probably most vocal about his support for his former soccer club. USA Today reports that his behavior and his loyalty to his current team has been questioned after Jurgen expressed his excitement at Germany’s successful match. It would appear that several fans think he should have loyalties to his current team, as head coach, and not his former team.

Did you see the Germany vs Brazil game? Who were you rooting for? What do you think about yesterday’s match?
